Little sunlight filters through the canopy so humidity is high, temperatures are constant and there is little wind.  If a light gap occurs in the canopy, some tree seedlings will quickly sprint upwards reaching for the light.

Animals of this layer include:  the slow loris, lizards, leopards and sloths.
